Can the polymer CASEIN be used as glue?


Materials:
  • measuring cup
  • glass
  • skim or low fat milk
  • white vinegar
  • spoon
  • paper towels

Procedure:
  1. Use the measuring cup and add 100ml (4 measuring cups) of skim or low fat milk to a glass.
  2. Add 25 ml (1 measuring cup) of white vinegar to the milk.
  3. Let the glass sit for 10 minutes and observe what happens.
  4. Use your pen to make notes, draw pictures as to what is happening in the glass.
    1. You should be seeing a layer of white "goop" floating to the top.
  5. Use a spoon to scoop out the curdled goop and place it in your measuring cup.
  6. Fill up your measuring cup with the white "goop."
  7. Now empty your measuring cup on a folded piece of paper towel and dry out the goop a bit.





The casein-based glue that you made was a kind of glue used by many years ago by the Egyptians to glue furniture together.
